Volkswagen Chattanooga just recently officially turned on its photo-voltaic installation which is the largest in the world and is responsible for being the primary power source for the facility when the assembly line has come to a halt. This power plant takes care of all peripheral and administrative areas which need power and also provides power to 13% of the plant during manufacturing hours.
This photo-voltaic installation is driven by solar power and needs to use 33 acres of land to have it housed adjacent to the building. Volkswagen can lay claim to be the first in the automotive world to take this large of a leap into the clean power sources for manufacturing.
No mistaking the drive of the Volkswagen company and its focus to get out front, and you can read more about their official awakening of their solar park here in AutomotiveIT.
